Fertiglobe Signs Landmark Green Ammonia Supply Agreement with EU

Hyphen Web Desk
Fertiglobe, a major ammonia producer based in Abu Dhabi, has secured a groundbreaking deal to supply green ammonia to the European Union, marking a significant step in the global transition towards renewable energy. The agreement, a result of a competitive H2Global auction funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, positions Fertiglobe as a key player in the EU's renewable energy supply chain.

Under this contract, Fertiglobe, which is a strategic partnership between ADNOC and OCI Global, will deliver up to 397,000 tons of green ammonia by 2033. The ammonia will be produced using renewable hydrogen from the Egypt Green Hydrogen project, a consortium that includes Scatec ASA, Orascom Construction, and the Sovereign Fund of Egypt. This project leverages Egypt’s abundant renewable energy resources and strategic location to support the EU’s ambitious climate goals.

The H2Global auction saw Fertiglobe outbid numerous competitors from five continents, demonstrating the growing market potential of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives. The agreement, valued at approximately €397 million, reflects the EU’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and fostering the development of sustainable energy sources.

This deal not only enhances Fertiglobe’s position in the global green ammonia market but also underscores the strategic importance of the Egypt Green Hydrogen project, which is set to play a crucial role in the production and supply of renewable energy to Europe.
