UAE Champions Sustainable Healthcare, Energy Solutions at UN Forum
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) delegation attending the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) presented the country's roadmap for achieving sustainability goals through strategic partnerships and innovation. Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister for Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange, and Chair of the UAE National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighted the UAE's pioneering approach to development priorities.
Lootah emphasized the nation's focus on building robust healthcare systems, fostering renewable energy solutions, and combating climate change. He underscored the UAE's commitment to international collaboration, seeking partnerships with countries, governments, UN programs, and international organizations to accelerate progress towards the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This global framework outlines 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aimed at achieving a more prosperous and equitable future by 2 030.
The UAE delegation specifically addressed SDG 2: Zero Hunger. Lootah emphasized the nation's unwavering dedication to ensuring global food security. Through strategic planning, innovative solutions, and international cooperation, the UAE is making significant strides toward ending hunger, enhancing food security, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices worldwide.
The HLPF serves as a critical platform for reviewing progress on the SDGs and fostering international partnerships to achieve these ambitious goals. The UAE delegation actively participated in discussions on revitalizing global partnerships for sustainable development, a key theme of this year's forum. This theme aligns with the priorities outlined in the 2024 Sustainable Development Goals Report launched by UN Secretary-General António Guterres in June. The report emphasizes the crucial role of international financial institutions in mobilizing resources for sustainable development initiatives.
The UAE's vision for sustainable development extends beyond its borders. The delegation actively engaged in discussions on unlocking investments for the SDGs, recognizing the collective effort required to achieve these targets by 2030. Lootah acknowledged the magnitude of the challenges facing the SDGs and highlighted the UAE's establishment of global programs and investment tools to address these issues.
The UAE's participation in the HLPF demonstrates the nation's commitment to playing a leading role in the global pursuit of sustainable development. By prioritizing robust healthcare systems, innovative energy solutions, and strategic partnerships, the UAE aims to contribute to a more sustainable and prosperous future for all.
