The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) announced a substantial reduction in its greenhouse gas emissions in 2023. According to their latest Sustainability Report, the company achieved a net decrease of 6. 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) in its scope 1 (direct emissions) and scope 2 (indirect emissions) categories. A critical factor in ADNOC's emissions reduction was the utilization of clean grid energy generated by solar and nuclear power plants. The report highlights that this shift in energy source alone accounted for a reduction of 4. 8 million tonnes of CO2e.
