Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the UAE's largest industrial company outside the oil and gas sector, has announced a groundbreaking development – the construction of the region's first-ever 100% renewable energy-powered industrial data centers.

Located at their Jebel Ali and Al Taweelah sites, these data centers mark a significant milestone in EGA's digital transformation journey and set a new standard for sustainable industrial practices.

The data centers will enable EGA to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and automation solutions more extensively, optimizing their core operations and reducing IT energy consumption by 50%.

By utilizing 100% renewable energy, EGA significantly minimizes the environmental footprint of its data infrastructure, aligning with the company's commitment to sustainability.

The new data centers, coupled with existing cloud computing resources, will provide EGA with a 2,300-fold increase in data processing capacity, future-proofing their digital operations.

The project also promises significant cost savings for EGA through a combination of increased processing power and lower unit processing costs.

The data centers are being developed in collaboration with Scientechnic, a leading regional provider of integrated technological solutions. This project aligns with the UAE's Industry 4.0 efforts, with both EGA and Microsoft being members of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology's Industry 4.0 Champions Network.

EGA's commitment to innovation extends beyond its data centers. The company actively contributes to the UAE's industrial growth strategy by prioritizing local suppliers. Notably, in 2022, EGA sourced nearly 40% of its global procurement needs from local UAE suppliers.

The groundbreaking of these data centers signifies a significant advancement for EGA, paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient future in the aluminum industry while setting a strong example for other industrial players in the region.
